20 years of your MOO moments

MOO has been around for 20 years. We started small, quite literally, with the MiniCard, and a lot has changed since then.

But after two decades of printing Business Cards, the cards themselves aren’t really the interesting part. 

What’s interesting is what was happening in your life when you ordered them. The conference you couldn’t turn up empty-handed to. The business you suddenly had to rename. The trip where one little card ended up getting you home.

So for our 20th birthday, we went back through your reviews to find the real moments behind the orders. The scrambles, surprises, milestones, and saves where MOO played a small part.

Here are seven of our favorites.

“When my graphic designer was unavailable over the Holidays, and I realized that I had run out of business cards right before the biggest conference of the year for my business, I was in a real bind. I needed changes made before I could print. The design team at MOO helped me over the New Year, and I was able to get them printed on time. Running out of Marketing Materials before a big conference is one way to start the New Year. Especially when lots of people were still clocked off for the holidays. Thankfully, the MOO design team was there to sort it out, so Jennifer turned up at the conference, stacked with Business Cards, ready to make connections. 

“There are many bumps on the road of entrepreneurship and I ran into one when I left the brand new business cards I just ordered at home in NY while I went on a business trip to Denver. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily I was able to reorder the same exact cards from the tarmac before my flight left and had them delivered to my hotel. What a lifesaver!” – Jacquie Hogan

“I went to Italy on two weeks’ notice, spoke NO Italian. Freaked out by reading Rick Steve travel books, learned zero Italian. So at dinner with 25 fun Italians, I’m hearing English, passed my QR code-enabled MOO card to my seatmate. He yells, “OOOOO” I love this!!! Passing his phone to the entire table. Suddenly I’m a rock star. That was 2009, we still do business together, as I’m part of the magazine Standup Journal, all due to my MOO business card. True story.” – John Dubock

One QR code and suddenly John’s card was doing the rounds. More than a decade later, he’s still doing business with people he met that night. Not bad for something small enough to fit in a wallet.

“After being pickpocketed while traveling, one of my MOO cards stashed in my headphone case long ago was the only hard copy proof of my name and address that TSA would accept as ID, along with a hard copy of my online police report. Although I had access to lots of other identifiers on my phone, they were not accepted – it was my MOO card that got me on the flight home. This was my 3rd? 4th? set of MOO cards, and I have always appreciated the quality and the depth of the catalog of designs, but this is customer satisfaction on another level!” – C Baker Lee

Of all the things you expect a Business Card to do, getting you through airport security probably isn’t one of them. We’re definitely adding that to our list of favorite use cases.

“I spent 45 minutes on hold with UPS and was disconnected twice, but finally learned there was a problem getting my orders from Oakland to South San Francisco, and there was no way to get my order before leaving the country. Sad.  A person from MOO reached out via email (it is the weekend, so this surprised me) and not only refunded me, but provided me with a brand new order that would be rush-printed and then shipped to my hotel in China. The order will arrive only two days after I arrive in China for a big week of business. Thank you, you saved me from some embarrassing interactions.” – Jared Korinko

Nothing tests pre-trip nerves quite like realizing your Business Cards have gone rogue. Luckily, Jared still made it across the Pacific ready to network, cards and all.
