Meet MOO’s new Welcome Box

At MOO, a big part of our business is helping customers welcome new people to their teams. But what about our own new employee experience? It’s been a while since we’ve refreshed it, so building on the success of our brand refresh last year, we thought it was high time we reimagined our own Welcome Box.

The idea? To create a fresh, memorable new-joiner experience, and make it a moment to celebrate. We wanted to go beyond the functional and build a Welcome Box that’s fun, inspiring, and personalized. It’s a way to immerse new MOOsters into our brand world, full of helpful things  people would actually keep. Beautifully designed, easy to digest, and guaranteed to get people excited about our products from day one. 

We sat down with two of the people who led the charge on the Welcome Box refresh: Millie Davies, our Associate Creative Director, and Bryony Gilhooly, our Head of People Operations.

What’s in our new Welcome Box?

Here at MOO, one of our core values is “keep it human.” That means we care about our people, and we want everyone to feel like they can be themselves. “We know the first day can be daunting for many,” says Bryony. “So instead of saving up the incoming information overload, we help them understand the important stuff first. Focusing on that helped us shape what goes into the box.”

Our new MOO Welcome Box includes:

• A beautiful box (with a personalized Name Tag on the outside) which has been designed to fit all of our products perfectly.
• The first layer inside the box includes a series of Postcards which take you through the company vision, culture and brand (what life at MOO is all about) and message from our very own CEO.
• There’s also a Sample Pack containing all of our paper stocks, a set of playful MOO Stickers, and a Water Bottle. 
• The second layer contains personalized Business Cards and Greeting Cards with envelopes. 
• You also get a MOO designed Notebook and a MOO Twist Pen so you can jot down all your fresh ideas and goals as a new MOOster.

The best part of our new Welcome Box

While we love everything in our Welcome Box, Millie has one favorite feature. 

“I love how the box has two distinct layers,” says Millie. “The first is all about the brand; our vision, mission and values, and under that layer, you have a series of MOO branded gifts and products. It’s that combination of resourcefulness and excitement I’m most proud of. I’m sure it will be a really special moment for new MOOsters.”

How we want people to feel when they open it

For some of our new employees, our Welcome Box might deliver their first interaction with a MOO product. So, we wanted to make it the best experience, and make them feel welcome, of course. 

“We bring brands to life, so what better way to demonstrate what we mean by that?” says Bryony. “We’re obsessed with great design, and one of our values is to ‘always deliver delight,’ so our Welcome Box is our first opportunity to live by that principle.”  

“A first impression can’t be re-made,” adds Millie. “And we want to make sure our new MOOsters feel part of the journey from the moment they open their Welcome Box.”

Why a proper welcome is essential to onboarding

When you build a Welcome Box properly, it can be a reflection of the experience a new employee is going to have with your business. It’s a first impression, so it should be a mix of fun and function.

There are lots of things you can include, from schedules to notepads and branded merch. But at the end of the day, the way you welcome someone should give them a sense of pride in their new workplace. 

They should feel connected to their new team, and they don’t have to wait to meet everyone in person or see the space in real life to feel that connection.
