Customer Spotlight: The Happiness Planner’s path to happy

A few years ago, Australian entrepreneur and writer Mo Seetubtim started a blog called BrandMentalist. Passionate about writing inspirational posts, Seetubtim started to attract a lot of readers.

“I was at the point where I wanted to turn it into a business, so I decided to ask my readers, if I could write about one thing to make your day, what should I write about?” said Seetubtim. “A lot of them replied and said they wanted to learn more about how they can be more positive and happier.” So Seetubtim thought of products that could be integrated into our busy lives to help them change their mindset and outlook, coming up with the idea of The Happiness Planner.

A different plan  

What Mo has created is a stationery business with a difference. At its core, is a mission to help people become happier and positive by mastering the art of positive thinking, mindfulness, gratitude, and self development. “I was sort of thinking about how I could integrate these elements of self development into a normal planner or a normal diary, because most of the diaries in the market focus on productivity and there’s nothing in the market that’s really about self awareness, self reflection, gratitude, and mindfulness,” said Seetubtim. “I did a lot of research into competitors and then asked my readers, would you buy this?”

After receiving great feedback from a small test group, Seetubtim started building an email list of people that said they would be interested in buying the product. Quite quickly that list grew to over 1,000 people, which gave her the confidence to take the leap and start getting everything printed.

The big questions 

“Basically the Happiness Planner is similar to a normal planner with to-do lists and all of that usual stuff,  but we have an element included within the product where people have to do small activities before they start their day,” said Seetubtim.

“That could be something like answer these questions about what makes you happy, what makes you unhappy, can you do anything to change it, what qualities would you like to improve, what skills would you like to adopt, what do you want to achieve in life, and who are you grateful for?”

“We want people to use the answers to do a little self reflection where they evaluate their health and energy levels and look back to the good things that happened, the bad things that happened, and evaluate what they learned from it.” According to Seetubtim, a lot of her customers have said they have become calmer and happier as a result of using the planner.
