Keeping busy

James Skerritt is a man of many talents. Writer, Director, Independent Filmmaker, Freelance Camera Operator, Editor…we’re betting he has to write pretty small to fit all of those on his business card.

His latest photography project, 'Hello! Pleased to meet you.', sees him taking one photo a day of someone who’s influenced or inspired him over the course of a year.

There are no rules or objectives when it comes to James’s striking black and white portraits. Some will be the result of chance meetings, while others will be captured over a scheduled coffee and conversation. But each one reflects a connection he’s made and is something tangible he takes away from the encounter.

Making a connection

You might say a business card performs a similar function. It’s an important part of an exchange between two people, and acts as an ongoing reminder of the meeting when they part company.

Recognising this connection, James has created a set of Square Business Cards to promote his project, using Printfinity to feature a different portrait on each card. He’s found that both the cards themselves, and the subject matter, are great conversation starters. “People are always interested to hear about the project, and being able to show new clients a portfolio of portraits really brings it to life,” says James. “I like to think it’s a project with a difference, so Square Business Cards are perfect for showing it off – people are as intrigued by the cards as they are by the images.”

Beyond the project

‘Hello! Pleased to meet you.' has brought James a lot more than he imagined. He’d been planning to undertake a longer-term project for a while, and couldn’t be happier with the satisfaction and sense of achievement he’s got from this one. “I’ve started similar projects in the past, but this is the first one I’ve kept going,” he explains. “Getting to see the progress of the project on a daily basis is a strong driving force. But it’s also helped me to appreciate the importance of taking one day at a time.”

Having found that Square Business Cards really add something to his current project, James is also keen to explore ways of tying his business stationery into future ventures. Whether that’s more Square Business Cards, or other products from the MOO range, with so many strings to his bow, we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
