Like most graphic designers, Jen (Founder of Australia-based design company, Thick Black Outline) works with Pantone swatches on a daily basis, but decided it was time to give hers a bit of a makeover – Japanese style.

Combining her influence of the Oriental Arts together with a culinary passion for the Japanese fare, Jen designed a striking set of ‘Japantone’ Luxe Notecards to give to clients. Having previously worked for Sushi Train as well as 5 star eatery Ten Sushi, her aim was to showcase her skilled sushi illustration and creative thinking all at once, whilst approaching the traditional colour palette in an unusual and memorable way.

Thanks to our unique Printfinity technology, each Notecard in Jen’s Japantone pack features a different colour, represented by a tantalizing piece of sushi. And no matter what your raw fish preference, there’s one there for you like ‘Saka’ Orange to ‘Shimesaba’ Blue and ‘Tako’ Burgandy (wasabi is extra!).

Jen uses the eye-catching (and hunger-inducing!) cards to give to clients once she’s completed their work, as well as to send samples and short thank you notes. And who doesn’t love a piece of sushi? “Sushi is such a colourful food, so why not create a colour palette in this way, for any sushi addict? After all, there’s a certain kinship with sushi lovers everywhere.”

If Jen’s Notecards are getting your stomach rumbling, then her work is complete. “I love to hear that people get hungry when they see my cards,” she says. “It’s confirmation that my work has evoked a feeling – more than just something visual.” With such a striking impact, Jen wanted her cards to feel as good as they looked, so she chose our premium 600gsm Luxe paper with a smooth matte finish - giving her clients a great tactile experience too.

Why not use Jen’s creativity to inspire your own set of Notecards? We’d love to see what you come up with.
