Treatment: Take two daily and…download this app

Apps are becoming an increasing part of our daily lives, so it’s no wonder that they’re starting to address more serious issues like medical conditions and disabilities. Not only did our MOO Awards Service category winner MyVoice create an app to help those with speech disabilities, but MOO for Business customer, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, has created its own app-driven campaign and online resource - Beyond the Shock - for those affected by breast cancer. Judging by the results, we’d say this is definitely a technology trend we can get behind.

Getting diagnosed with breast cancer is always devastating news. Beyond the Shock focuses on providing all of the helpful information in an easily accessible platform to try and ease as much of the resulting shock and confusion as possible. “It’s a program developed to help educate women about their treatment options. Infused with hope, Beyond the Shock can help alleviate fears and reinforce the decisions made by doctors and patients”, said Creative Director Mark Gomez.

"Our goal is that the app will be used by anyone affected with breast cancer. This includes women diagnosed, as well as their families and loved ones.” The app is translated into five languages (so far!) including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Mandarin in the hope that it can provide help for these people on a global scale.

Positive Promotion

The National Breast Cancer Foundation used MOO for Business to help spread the word about their new campaign. But rather than order traditional Business Cards (featuring a name, phone number, email etc.), they created a design that focused purely on the Beyond the Shock campaign. So rather than a focus on a particular individual’s contact details, they’ve transformed their cards into promotional messages. The card’s information gets straight to the point with the Beyond the Shock logo, description, website, and twitter handle. In other words, receiving one of their cards means you have everything you need to get involved with Beyond the Shock right at your fingertips - quite literally! Their team then handed out the cards at conferences, to their sponsors, and to anyone else they met that could be affected by breast cancer.

Another feature of their design involved our Printfinity option – Beyond the Shock used a series of different images on their cards. “We wanted to highlight the branding of Beyond the Shock which shows the diversity of people affected by breast cancer through illustration. This includes women of many backgrounds, family, and team of nurses and doctors that support them,” said Mark. On top of that, their cards are bilingual – Mark had them printed in both Spanish and English so that even the cards could be understood by a greater group.

Beyond the Shock has also promoted itself through USAToday, Nurses.com and social media, but nothing quite spreads a message like participants’ own word of mouth. That’s why they created a whole page to encourage users to share the app and provided badge images similar to their card illustrations that can be easily added to any blog or social media site.

Their website and app is used as a resource for women with breast cancer, for loved ones to gain a better understanding of the disease, and as a tool for doctors to share information. If you’re interested in finding out more, make sure to visit them here.

If you’re thinking about using cards to help talk about your own campaign, our MOO for Business team is happy to help get you started.
