A winning smile

Albert Zaragoza is a Project Manager at MOO, and when he's not here, he’s kept busy as the COO and co-founder of tuuth - an online dental clinic management system. In October last year, the team were selected to attend the Dublin Web Summit, which boasts 10,000 attendees. So in the face of so many competitors, we asked Albert how tuuth stood out…

“Because our product was ready to launch before the summit, we knew the key to stand out was a demo. So we took two laptops, a tablet, an Android mobile and an iPhone. We also created a user account with all the important data preloaded; time is key for the potential investors and press.”

They attracted attention to their stand by wearing t-shirts printed with their payment plan logos, and had a promotional video on display that caught the interest of people walking by.

Albert explained that when it came to networking, preparation was vital: “We researched which investors, press and companies were going so we could get to know our audience. It’s always really useful to know the latest news too, and it makes a good talking point if you’re lost for words.”

To boost their networking effectiveness, the team used MOO business cards with a quirky tuuth twist: “Ours were more than just a keep-in-touch tool; we used them to show-off each of our USPs. We used Printfinity to make 10 different sets of cards, each with a different key selling point on the back.”

The cards went down a treat: “We had amazing feedback from everyone. People loved the idea of having different USPs on each card,” said Albert. “They’re like fun little pieces of art with interesting facts about our industry too.”

Albert explained that their innovative designs led to more than just good feedback: “We were subsequently approached by investors that had interesting proposals for us. We also connected with other businesses that work in the same market, which has allowed us to explore potential opportunities that could be very profitable.”

After the conference, the team made sure their networking efforts paid off: “We followed up with everyone we spoke to. So once we had talked to someone at the conference, we added a quick one-line summary of the chat to the back of each business card. We then sent a relevant follow-up email - it’s a great opportunity to make a second impression, and you’re much less likely to be forgotten about."

The team had an amazing time at the DWS, and their preparation and networking prowess certainly paid off: “Everybody seemed really excited to experience our product and see how we’ve reshaped the way management software is used”.

Networking at conferences can be tricky, but as tuuth’s story shows, if you do your homework and add your own unique twist to branding, you can stand out from the crowd.
