Tiger Lily. Chilli Pepper. Fuchsia Rose. No, these aren’t the latest celebrity baby names (OK, some might be) – they’re actually all previous Pantone Colors of the Year.
A while ago, we caught a bit of a bug. Don’t worry, we’re not unwell, just a little bit obsessed with putting ink to paper. That might not be what you call ‘news’… but I guess what we’re trying to say is we’re hooked on calligraphy.
It all started when we invited Douglas Bevans from Central St Martins to come into MOO HQ and impart his wisdom with a MOO-U calligraphy lesson. We were pretty much hooked as soon as we picked up our pens and started making swirly shapes, discovering how much fun it is to see your own name written in ink.
You know how much we love getting creative, so naturally, we set you guys a challenge; to scribe your favourite quotes for an extra special prize; a set of personalised Luxe Notecards to help you delight clients and friends with handwritten notes.
Before the big reveal (well, we have to build suspense), we just wanted to offer a snapshot of how many entries we received!
That’s right, a new pharaoh has been crowned! A few weeks ago we asked you to reimagine Cleopatra’s branding. What would the last Pharoah of Egypt’s branding look like? How would she use Stickers to network? And would she *constantly* be instagramming pictures of the pyramids?
We’ve had loads of fantastic submissions (we’re always amazed how creative you all are *hides own stick-man-drawing entry*) and earlier this week we sat down with a small judging team (think X-factor but without the cameras and audience) and our graphic designer Jovanna to pick our worthy winner. Last month, you helped us kick off 2013 with our 5 Card Pitch competition, which was great fun. Why stop there, we asked ourselves. It’s been a while since we asked you to show us your creativity and carry out some rebranding in a celebrity themed competition. So who better to undergo a MOO makeover than the Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra (a.k.a CEO of Nile Enterprises).

The graphic design team was sent to the very first Typographic Conference to be held in London. Three jam packed days of back-to-back talks by the design worlds leading typographers and creatives. It was a fabulous fest of type design, ascenders, brackets and other Ponzi designer-y quirk.
We loved the idea of typefaces being designed for a specific purpose and use, such as; typefaces particularly for swearing and others just for telling lies. What would be the best typeface for passing on your details on a small paper card?
One way to make your designs and Business Cards stand out is a “less is more” approach that some of our creative customers have used to market their personal brand. As usual, these examples merely the tip of your creative iceberg – but here are a few that caught our eye.
Brand new customer Nate Imhoff chose to, in his own words “keep my collateral simple” with these clean, stark cards. Nate explains “I believe good design is good business, and giving my collateral too much personality could detract from my work, which I want to speak for itself.” We think you’ll agree, he gets his message across very well!
At MOO, We Love to Print. You already knew that, didn’t you? But most days, we print your lovely cards on Big MOO, which is our brand new state of the art HP Indigo Digital Press. However, a month ago a few of us had a chance to print on one of Big MOO’s distant relatives.
We were fortunate enough to go on a roadtrip to a community print shop in Providence, Rhode Island – AS220 Print Shop.
