Alongside her roles as a media director, events planner, editor-in-chief and all-round artist advocate, Lori Zimmer is the first of our guest curators for Paper View, our 2015 content series in partnership with SCOPE. We snatched some time in her busy schedule to discover more about her passions for paper and pulverized refrigerators, and how on earth she manages to stay sane with so much going on.
Paper. Where would we be without it? No fridge doors drowning in kids’ crayon masterpieces. No office doodles for psychologists to have a field day with. No sickly love notes exchanged between teenage crushes before hearts are so cruelly broken (we’re not bitter, honest).
A while ago, we caught a bit of a bug. Don’t worry, we’re not unwell, just a little bit obsessed with putting ink to paper. That might not be what you call ‘news’… but I guess what we’re trying to say is we’re hooked on calligraphy.
It all started when we invited Douglas Bevans from Central St Martins to come into MOO HQ and impart his wisdom with a MOO-U calligraphy lesson. We were pretty much hooked as soon as we picked up our pens and started making swirly shapes, discovering how much fun it is to see your own name written in ink.
You know how much we love getting creative, so naturally, we set you guys a challenge; to scribe your favourite quotes for an extra special prize; a set of personalised Luxe Notecards to help you delight clients and friends with handwritten notes.
Before the big reveal (well, we have to build suspense), we just wanted to offer a snapshot of how many entries we received!
Living in this digital age, it can be easy to forget what life was like before laptops and high-speed wi-fi connections. Days are all too easily filled with iPads instead of notepads, instant messages instead of coffee chats, and FaceTime instead of, well, face time.
So, to show that we’re still in touch with the origins of our business we decided to put our money where our mouths are – well, our fingers where the paints are – and spend a day experiencing the hands-on, computers-off method of printing.
Who better to help us with a little soul searching (and a chance to get our hands dirty) than Aida Wild? A MOO customer whose day-to-day work …Continue reading this article…
With all the entries for the MOO Award 2012 being so creative, our creative department wanted to get in on the action too! So we set about designing a special trophy for the winner.
After some research, I found trophies were generally made out of plastic, metal or glass, which just didn’t seem right seeing as we just love paper so much! So I wanted to do something a little different, and create a trophy made entirely out of paper…
I spent a couple of weeks drawing and testing out concepts, before narrowing down our favorite three concepts to just one. I then set about figuring out how …Continue reading this article…
We often get requests for Gift Cards around the holidays – so we decided to get ahead of the curve this year, and give you what you want!
What are MOO Gift Cards?
MOO Gift Cards are virtual Gift Cards that you can email either to yourself if you fancy handing over the gift personally, or to friends and family.
If you’d like to buy one for somebody, it’s very easy – simply choose the amount you want to spend, and design it from the Gift Cards page. If you send it directly to a friend, you can even choose …Continue reading this article…
I always appreciate receiving a handmade present, there’s something rather personal and special about it. When we decided to make new sets of Greeting Cards, I wanted to bring as much as possible of a handmade feel into my designs.
For inspiration I settled on one of the most iconic seasonal themes and symbols; the snowflake. Snowflakes are incredibly intricate and fascinating objects that always amaze me when I see them up close. ‘But how do I bring the human touch into a printed product?’, I asked myself. The answer to this question lies in the combination of paper and photography. I decided to create five different …Continue reading this article…
We just launched a new range of Greeting Card packs, and we’re rather pleased with them. It occurred to us, though, that we’re not the only ones who come up with creative designs. We’d absolutely love to see the cool company greetings you’ve sent and received or simply stumbled upon. You can share your finds with us by posting them on our Facebook page or by Tweeting them to us @overheardatmoo.
To get us started, we turned to Matt G – MOO’s very own creative guru (and fashion guru, have you seen those jumpers?) He thought he’d have a look around for how companies …Continue reading this article…
