Spring is in the air – erm well, just about! It’s still a bit dreary at MOO HQ but that only makes us all the more excited for what spring will bring – warmer weather, lush landscapes, and, most importantly, some of the best conferences of the year.
We’ve put together a list of our eight favorite networking events scattered across Europe and North America (plus one in Asia for good measure), catering to designers, tech whizzes, marketers, start-ups, and everyone in between. See which event hits closest to home (in more than one way)!
Consider this conference a creative haven. Taking place in London on 28th February, Reasons is open to designers, developers, artists, managers, coders, and animators – basically anyone who cares about their craft and is looking for an intensive day of inspiration. It’s a single-dayer, which makes it a bit more on the affordable/do-able end then some of the bigger conferences.
This massive meeting of designer minds is taking place in Boston this year (home of our new MOO office) and we couldn’t be more excited! The three-day event is packed with speakers, design workshops, exhibits, and opportunities to network with fellow design lovers. With over 80+ speakers and 3,000 attendees, HOW is the crème de la crème of design conferences.
The Small Business Expo happens in a handful of US cities, which makes it all the easier to get involved. This spring, they’ll be popping up in Chicago in April and Dallas in May. Keep an eye on the rest of the year though, for additional expos in Boston, LA, Miami, New York, and San Francisco. The event boasts business critical workshops and plenty of opportunity to form new connections – you also get the chance to shop some of the vendors’ innovative new products, in case you’re fresh out of gift ideas.
We know this one’s a bit short notice, but we thought it was too great not to mention! If you’ve been sitting on a great startup idea, or simply think you’ve got the skills to help someone else’s idea become a reality, check and see if there’s a startup weekend in your city. Beginning this Friday(!), it’s a 54-hour whirlwind event that strives to present business ideas, form teams, and build a viable product from start to finish. You’ll get to meet developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and more for what they’ve coined “co-founder dating” – in other words, networking for startup enthusiasts. Much better than spending the weekend binging on TV and snacks, right?
If you’re even the least bit interested in marketing and technology’s influence on the future of marketing, then this Adobe digital marketing conference is a must-attend. You’ll learn from entrepreneurs and innovators in marketing and advertising, and attend sessions on everything from social marketing to cross-channel campaign management. It’s perfect for analysts, advertisers, publishers, digital marketers, developers, content managers, social marketers, and marketing execs (and probably more – there’s too many to mention!).
If you fancy taking a trip (or are nearby and have been waiting for us to mention something closer to you!) then you can look forward to a design and code day based in Beirut, discussions on web and mobile’s impact on creative industries, and competitions for rising talents in the region (to name just a few!).
It’s never too early to get a jump on a great idea! Whether you have a brilliant concept for a mobile app or the perfect plan for a new charity organization, age should never be what stops you from turning it into a reality. Go Youth Conference celebrates a broader perspective on entrepreneurship from young founders and CEOs around the world and inspires youth to use their talents to create ‘the next big thing’. Their event this year will be held in the lush city of Lisbon, Portugal (so pack a swimsuit – this is definitely an event where work and play intermingle).
Most people know about the massive music festival that is SXSW, but there are dozens of better ways to network during this week-long Austin event than bumping elbows at an indie rock show. The SXSW Interactive Festival is also prominent incubator for innovative technology and digital creativity, and consists of five days of panels, presentations, and networking events hosted by industry leaders. It also showcases some of the best new websites, video games, and startup ideas the community has to offer. A few sub events to think about? The SXSW Trade Show, SXSW Create, and SXSW Accelerator.
We’d like to think we’ve covered our bases on some of the best spring events, but keep in mind there’s dozens more that didn’t make this list. If you know of a conference or event happening near you, let us know in the comments below.
Now that we’ve (hopefully!) filled up your calendar with some exciting happenings, why not brush up on your networking skills with this list of tips?
