You’ve heard us shouting about SXSW on our blog and in our MOOsLETTER – it is one of the most exciting conferences of the year, and we’ve survived another round! As we mentioned, the council that MOO HQ is located in in London set up shop in downtown Austin and Hackney House served as the perfect spot to personally distribute the hundreds and hundreds of MOO Cards that customers ordered to help network at SXSW.
We had such a great time meeting so many customers, in fact one of our favourite memories was on day 2 when due to a taxi shortage, we let some strangers share our taxi downtown. We got to chatting, and it turned out the gentleman in the front from Los Angeles had recently contacted MOO to help the attendees of a conference he was organising get discounts on cards (did you know we offered that service?), and the other two passengers were MOO customers from London, one who unzipped his hoodie to reveal a MOO t-shirt. Thanks for making our day guys!
We loved seeing all the cards people who came to collect, and were even impressed by how colour-coordinated our customers can be. Orange Acrylic MiniCard holder anyone?
Everyone who came by got a free NFC Business Card that we’re in beta with; if you got one please do share in the comments what you’ve used it for. We weren’t the only ones at SXSW who were giving NFC some love – Samsung was doing some amazing things to show off the NFC functionality in their Galaxy phones and tablets. Our favourite were the ads and building wraps that let people hold up their Samsung Galaxy phone to collect an NFC tag that they could then redeem for a free food item in a number of Austin restaurants. Mmm, free cupcakes…
Being a printing company of course, we also enjoyed all the on demand printing that was going on. Sadly our treasured Indigo printers weigh about 3 million pounds* so we couldn’t bring them along, but we did see Conduit printing custom t-shirts for people… and the person who got the most people to scan the QR code on their shirt won a cash prize. How’s that for technology?
Also 3D printing was a big focus, with The Future of 3D Printing and How 3D Printing Changed My Life both being panels this year, as well as a book signing by founder of 3D printing company Geomagic’s Fu Ping.
We can’t wait to see what’s next.
