When we invited our UK MOO Award winners Simon Berry (along with his wife and business partner Jane) from ColaLife to have lunch with us at MOO HQ, we didn’t plan for them to walk in halfway through dessert – but sadly, a combination of late trains and a Twitter meltdown meant that we didn’t get to have the long lunch followed by their presentation, as we’d planned.
However, this didn’t deter Simon and Jane, who had a quick bite as they prepared to talk to MOO about their own, rather more personal long journey – from the conception of the ColaLife idea, to its current public profile.
Before the presentation, our Customer Marketing Director (and the genius inventor of the inaugural MOO Award!) Simon Cobby made a little presentation of his own – the trophy! Our creative team had been working for weeks on the design, which we presented alongside an equally artisan-like hand-cut certificate.
Simon and Jane’s presentation and product demonstration was absolutely fascinating. We picked them as our winners because the Cola Life story is truly remarkable, and their vivacious skillful talk, and passion for their project made for a compelling and genuinely educational speech. Afterwards, the Berrys told me that they hadn’t expect a 5 minute presentation to turn into a 45 minute demonstration (which is what happens when you do a great speech with a great product and then ask “Any questions?”)!
We’re a friendly lot here at MOO – Roly even customized his trademark Mohawk in the ColaLife colours, much to the Berry’s amusement – and we did our best to make them welcome, part of which involved plying them with cake.
To round off a brilliant afternoon, I took Simon and Jane on the full tour of MOO HQ – from the developers and the creatives, right down to the Ground Floor operations where Big MOO (the printer) lives.
I think its safe to say that Simon and Jane had as much fun as we did.
