With all the entries for the MOO Award 2012 being so creative, our creative department wanted to get in on the action too! So we set about designing a special trophy for the winner.
After some research, I found trophies were generally made out of plastic, metal or glass, which just didn’t seem right seeing as we just love paper so much! So I wanted to do something a little different, and create a trophy made entirely out of paper…
I spent a couple of weeks drawing and testing out concepts, before narrowing down our favorite three concepts to just one. I then set about figuring out how to get it made. Luckily we seemed to have lots of paper lying around, and so decided to make the trophies right here in the MOO studio.
The final design of the trophy is made from layers upon layers of thick card, which had to be individually glued and clamped together, before being left to dry overnight. Once it was all glued, we cut it down to size with our automated guillotine.
Nested in the center sits a hollow MOO ink drop filled with a couple of drops of ink from our large printers. I had to ask our printer Big MOO nicely if I could borrow some of his ink to use in the trophy. I then carefully mixed the ink to get our four brand colours, and injected a few drops into the hollow of each ink drop. But what’s the fun in having a trophy if you can’t play with it. So for a bit of added fun I added some clear oil to the mixture, meaning the ink would separate after a while, requiring a good shake to wake the colour.
And voila, we have our trophies!
