If you’re a regular MOO maker, you may have noticed a few changes afoot. We’ve been working really hard to create a unified system which we’re delighted to finally roll out – right now!
Just before Christmas, we updated the tools used to create the text sides of our Business Cards, then applied the same changes to Minicards and Postcards. Now we’ve turned our attention to streamlining our image editing and cropping page. The end result is the previously mentioned unified system which is much more user friendly – so, once you know how to create one product, you’ll know how to create them all!
This is the page where we lay out all the images you’ve added to your pack, so you can edit the orientation, crop and zoom for each card individually, quickly and easily. Here’s what we launched today:
You’ll see that your pack is now laid out much more like a pack, allowing you to scroll through all your images and edit them much more quickly – all the controls you’re familiar with are right there on the page. Plus, if you forget to add an image, you can just scroll to the end of your pack, click the big plus button and upload it right there and then.
We’re also using much higher resolution images on this page, which means what you see on the screen is of a similar quality to what you’ll see on your finished product.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly we have this little button:
Clicking this allows you to quickly move between the two sides of your cards – and you can click it as many times as you like! It may seem like a simple little button, but it hints at a much bigger future for MOO. You see, for a Product Manager, bringing the image side and details side of all of our products onto the same software platform, and being able to move seamlessly between them means that as a company we can move much faster to deliver new features. For example, if we find a bug affecting one product, we can fix it across all of them in one go. If we want to add more fonts, they’ll be available in Business Cards, Minicards and Postcards with no extra work! If we make an improvement to the image enhancement algorithm, we can apply it to all images across both sides of a pack all in one go. You get the idea – better features, implemented faster, resulting in a much better user experience for you.
As with anything new it’s important to acknowledge that there will always be a few bumps in the road, so if you encounter absolutely anything wrong on the site over the next week or so, do let us know. If you drop our Customer Service team a line, we’ll jump on it like MOO crew on cake. And whatever your experience, we’d love to hear your feedback, so get in touch either way.
Now without further ado, here’s a screencast of me making a pack using the new flow:
Existing unfinished projects (started 3 days ago) seem to have a bug, when I try to finish it I get an error that “there might be a tiny problem with one or more of your images”.. there was no problem yesterday and how am I supposed to know which images “might” have a problem? Already spent hours uploading and repositioning my images, this experience with Moo has been very frustrating.
Hey George! This looks great. I haven’t actually ordered cards from moo (yet) but I have ordered sticker books. I see the new image editing applies to sticker images too, are you guys planning to improve the sticker ordering process so that the layout of stickers in the book can be seen/changed? This would be awesome
George – these are superb developments, beautifully explained. well done to you and your team.
This is huge! Thanks so much. I am your biggest supporter. The other day I was raving about Moo and a friend asked me, do you secretly work for them or something.
I will be ordering stickers next for viewer/reader giveaways so I look forward to the additional changes mentioned about, but for now the additional editing is exciting.
Thanks George & Moo!
George, Love the Moo Products. My only comment is that I would like to impose a logo ontop of my images. I think it would be fantastic to add a logo image (b&w) that would be superimposed on the front photo.
Hi Melanie, I’m sorry you’ve been having trouble with our site. As part of the upgrade we did make our image placement error detection a bit more strict so we could warn customers their cards might print badly.
If you scroll through your pack, the image that is causing the error should have a yellow error message above it – you may need to re-position the image or remove it and upload it again to clear the error.
If that doesn’t solve the problem, our customer care team are always more than happy to help: http://www.moo.com/service/ Give them a shout and they’ll walk you through fixing the problem.
Hi David, this is also something we’re looking into offering but for now the only way of doing it would be to overlay your logo in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign before uploading your images.
You can download our template files for use in these products here: http://us.moo.com/help/faq/templates-and-guidelines.html
Hope that helps!
