Chapter Five: The Password

I finally found the house. Inside I could smell the hedgehog and bears, as well as a guinea pig and some mice. I roared the traditional greeting, “Let me in, let me in, or I’ll blow your house in!”

There really was no latitude on this point. The structure must be maintained exactly in these sorts of tales. Otherwise, chaos and uncertainty will overwhelm us all. So imagine my surprise when I, once again, did not receive the traditional response.

“Sure thing, friend,” came a voice, “what’s the password?”

Password? Password?! I roamed the island, confused. How were they breaking the ancient forms? How were they changing the rules? What could the password be? As I wandered, images floated unbidden through my mind. Strange images that… Could it be?

I knew the password. I bounded back to the house.
