Hardboil’d, Part XI

For Want of Accord

Confound it–this is turmoil most vicious! Unusual sounds spring forth from our mouths. Sounds both long, loud, and of a uncommon pitch for such small mus musculus. So dramatic is our dismay that it actually alarms all similar sounds and no abutting paragraphs may contain it. You must work hard to find this monstrous lack, or doom will visit us all!

Q: What sound springs forth from our trio of animalia?

(Hint: you’ll not find a solution in this confusion)

For your chance to win this amazing prize, simply answer the question in the comments below. Well, what are you waiting for? Ready? Steady? Quiz!

  20. Lou Barr

The trio of animalia are squeaking, for ‘mus musculus’ is the common house mouse (which is odd nomenclature if ever any were used, as the only house mice I’ve ever have had very refined tastes (feasting on earl grey teabags, and battenburg cake!).

    That’d be like, “MOO!”, yo.

  24. Elyse Fair

I know that mus musculus is a mouse, but they aren’t loud. I think it’s the chime of a clock. The story of the three blind mice had a clock in it, and the riddle talked about one of the sounds causing other sounds to happen at the same time.

  25. Kelli Nemec

    is the sound an exclamation?

  26. Laurie Y
